On this Democracy Day, I had intended to rest my pen. I wanted to leave the fate written on the walls of history to speak for itself. I thought perhaps the sacrifices of those who fought for democracy were enough testimony. Yet, in the final hour, a thought stirred within me, compelling me to write a message to all of us who have come together to form this sovereign nation called Nigeria. My message is particularly for those who believe that the business of Nigeria lies in the hands of a powerful few. Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and member representing Ijesa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has extended warm felicitations to the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, on the occasion of his birthday.
In a goodwill message made available to journalists, Hon. Oke, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, described Senator Basiru as a visionary leader, patriotic statesman, and an indispensable pillar of the progressive movement in Nigeria.
“Senator Ajibola Basiru is a man of exceptional intellect, purpose-driven leadership, and unshakable loyalty to our great party,” Hon. Oke said. “His enduring contributions to the consolidation of our democracy and to the organizational strength of the APC are worthy of commendation and emulation.”
Highlighting Senator Basiru’s distinguished record of public service, Hon. Oke praised his performance in various leadership roles, including his tenure as Senate Spokesperson and, more recently, his current role as the National Secretary of the APC. He also noted Senator Basiru’s service as Chairman of the Board of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), where he has been instrumental in advancing the sector's growth and aligning it with national economic goals.
“Through every role he has held, Senator Basiru has demonstrated a rare blend of intellectual rigor, political maturity, and unwavering dedication to national progress. His strategic contributions to both policy and party development have continued to resonate positively within and beyond our party structures,” Hon. Oke remarked.
He further praised Senator Basiru for his grassroots engagement, policy acumen, and bridge-building efforts, particularly in uniting stakeholders across the party and fostering ideological cohesion among its members.
As he celebrated the Senator’s new age, Hon. Oke offered prayers for continued wisdom, strength, and sound health for the APC scribe. He expressed confidence in Senator Basiru’s ongoing role as a stabilizing force and guiding light in the APC’s mission to deliver good governance and democratic dividends to Nigerians.
