The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying security measures around school environments in Osun State, with a renewed focus on integrating host communities and leveraging modern policing strategies. This assurance was made during a two-day Stakeholders’ Forum on School Security, held at the Local Government Service Commission, State Secretariat, Osogbo.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, reiterated the administration’s unwavering dedication to creating a safe and secure learning environment for all students in the state.
Highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts, Governor Adeleke called for strengthened synergy among educational authorities, community leaders, the police, and other security agencies to proactively prevent threats to schools.
“Our state has maintained zero incidents of attacks on educational institutions—an achievement we must guard jealously,” he stated. “We are committed to sustaining this record through reforming infrastructure, restoring discipline, and renewing hope among stakeholders in the education sector.”
The Governor commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for prioritising school safety and pledged the state's continued support for the initiative. He also urged the Police to adopt intelligence-led policing and modern surveillance technologies for proactive law enforcement.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, emphasized the Force’s strategic approach, which includes training programs for educators, administrators, and school-based security personnel on identifying and responding to threats.
“Osun remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria. To maintain that status, we must fortify school security and embrace intelligence-led policing,” CP Gotan remarked.
CP Abayomi Shogunle, National Coordinator of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), further outlined the program’s goal of integrating communities into the security architecture of schools and enhancing resilience against threats.
In his remarks, Osun State Commissioner for Education, Eluwole Sunday Adedipo, thanked Governor Adeleke for logistical support to the education sector, noting that such backing has led to measurable improvements in school performance and morale.
Also present at the forum, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Samuel Ojo, emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance stance on insecurity and applauded the synergy between state authorities and security agencies.
The Stakeholders’ Forum brought together representatives from educational institutions, security formations, and traditional communities, all united by the shared goal of ensuring a secure educational environment in Osun State.
