Osun Voters Assembly to PBAT: Don’t Mortgage 2026 Gubernatorial Ticket to Gov. Adeleke, It’s a Dangerous Gamble
....group threatens statewide protest
The Osun Voters Assembly has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) against any attempt to hand over the 2026 APC gubernatorial ticket in Osun State to the current governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, under any political alignment or secret pact. The group warned that such a move would not only backfire disastrously, but also betray democratic values and the will of the Osun people.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the Assembly described the growing speculation of a political deal between President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke as "dangerous, deeply transactional, and anti-progressive," insisting that Osun must never be reduced to a political bargaining chip.
“Osun is not for sale,” the statement declared.
The group warned in clear terms that any attempt to foist Adeleke on the APC ticket, either through cross-party endorsement or elite manipulation, would provoke serious backlash, internal rebellion, and widespread political resistance.
“Let it be clear: there will be a backlash. The people will resist. The party will splinter, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola will reclaim Osun under any platform he chooses. PBAT should not ignore this looming consequence.”
Going further, the Osun Voters Assembly declared its readiness to mobilize thousands of citizens for a statewide protest if any attempt is made to impose Senator Adeleke as APC’s 2026 governorship candidate.
“No serious leader remains in the PDP today with statewide support,” the statement noted. “Why reward failure with further opportunity?”
Concluding, the Assembly urged President Tinubu and the APC national leadership to uphold merit, loyalty, and grassroots sentiment in determining the party’s future in Osun.
“Osun deserves better. We demand better. The people are watching, and come 2026, they will speak with one voice. But if power is traded in secret, we will respond in the open with action.”
