Yoruba Unity Hinges on Alaafin-Ooni Bond – Olowu of Kuta





The Olowu of Owu-Kuta Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, CON, has called for strengthened unity among Yoruba monarchs, emphasizing that the relationship between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife is the cornerstone of peace and cohesion across Yorubaland.

Oba Oyelude made this significant appeal on Tuesday while receiving the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Adeniran Owoade I, at his royal palace in Kuta. The historic visit was witnessed by a jubilant crowd of indigenes, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from within and beyond Kuta.

Welcoming the Alaafin in grand style alongside his Olori, prominent high chiefs, and members of the royal court, Oba Oyelude underscored the importance of preserving unity through collaborative leadership among Yoruba monarchs.

“Your Majesty, your visit is historic. Myself and the entire people of Kuta are grateful and deeply honoured. We are happy to receive you,” Olowu of Kuta said.

He went further to emphasize that Yoruba unity hinges on the harmony between the traditional institutions of Oyo and Ife, saying:
“The bond between the Alaafin and the Ooni is the pillar upon which the unity of Yorubaland rests. I urge you to continue the path of peace and mutual respect upheld by your forebears, especially Alaafin Adeyemi, who made notable efforts to bridge divisions among our royal fathers.”

Oba Oyelude encouraged Alaafin Owoade to prioritize a visit to the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, as a gesture of solidarity that would resonate across Yorubaland.

He also praised Alaafin Owoade’s commitment to preserving Yoruba heritage and identity, adding,
“Our tradition is our foundation. It must not be allowed to go into extinction. I am pleased with how you’re championing our culture in your reign.”

In his remarks, Alaafin Owoade expressed heartfelt appreciation to Oba Oyelude, his royal council, and the people of Kuta for the warm and elaborate reception. He described the Olowu’s message of unity as “deeply gladdening,” noting that fostering cohesion among Yoruba monarchs remains a priority of his reign.

“I pray for the continued peace and prosperity of Kuta. This royal visit is not just symbolic, it’s part of a broader mission to foster unity and strengthen relationships across Yorubaland,” Alaafin Owoade said.

As the Alaafin’s unity tour continues, the significance of royal collaboration and traditional diplomacy remains front and center in shaping a stronger, united Yoruba nation.
