Nigeria’s Expanding Horizon: Rep. Oluwole Oke Urges Chinese Investors to Explore Aviation, Energy, and Agriculture Opportunities

The Nigerian Parliament has reaffirmed its commitment to opening up the nation’s economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pursuing laws aimed at improving the ease of doing business, advancing tax reforms, and creating incentives to attract foreign investment.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Oluwole Oke,

disclosed this while addressing lawmakers from across the Global South at the ongoing Global South Legislators’ Summit in Urumqi, China.

Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the Nigerian Parliament has been enacting legislation that strengthens the president’s reform agenda, particularly those targeted at creating a competitive business climate and boosting investor confidence. With a population of over 250 million, he said, Nigeria presents vast opportunities across multiple sectors.

The federal lawmaker extended a direct invitation to Chinese businessmen and women to explore Nigeria’s expanding opportunities in aviation, energy, and agriculture. Highlighting the country’s diverse energy mix-solar, hydro, wind, and coal, he stressed that Nigeria is well-positioned to serve as a hub for technological advancement and sustainable investment.

“Our parliament has been supportive of reforms that ease business operations,” Oke stated. “China already has one of the highest numbers of companies operating in Nigeria, both at national and sub-national levels, but we want to see more investments in critical sectors.”

Beyond investment, Oke also called on delegates to support Nigeria’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, emphasizing the nation’s leadership role on the African continent and its longstanding commitment to global peace and stability.

The Osun-born legislator advocated for a new model of South-South cooperation anchored on mutual respect, equal partnership, and shared prosperity. He urged member nations to champion the free movement of goods, services, and people, noting that Nigeria has already taken steps in this direction, including visa-free arrangements for Chinese diplomats.

“I encour

age us to look at the Global South not only as a political alliance but as a platform to deepen economic ties, transfer technology, promote climate-friendly policies, and ensure prosperity for our people,” Oke said.

The summit in Urumqi brought together legislators from across the developing world to discuss strengthening cooperation, advancing shared prosperity, and building common positions for the Global South.
