Osun Amotekun in Storm: Commander Omoyele Refutes Allegations of Criminal Infiltration by Pioneer DG Shittu
Osogbo, Osun State – The Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has been thrust into a heated controversy following serious allegations from its pioneer Director-General, Mr. Amitolu Shittu, against the current leadership.
Shittu claimed that Commander High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele recruited “cultists, ritualists, ex-convicts, and drug users” into the Corps, warning that such actions threatened public safety and eroded confidence in the security outfit. He further accused Omoyele of diverting operatives to duties outside the law establishing the Corps.
But Omoyele fired back, branding the accusations as “baseless, politically motivated, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.” He explained that Amotekun was in a “deplorable and unstructured state” when he assumed office and highlighted key reforms under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration:
Establishment of a functional, befitting headquarters
Comprehensive retraining programs for operatives
Revamped protocols for transparency, accountability, and community-focused operations
Addressing recruitment, Omoyele emphasized that every appointment is merit-based, rigorously vetted, and verified by credible guarantors including traditional rulers, clergy, and senior civil servants. “Any insinuation of favoritism or irregularity is false and a disservice to the dedicated men and women of Amotekun,” he said.
Omoyele dismissed calls for his removal as politically driven, stressing that his mandate is lawful and focused on protecting lives and property. “The Amotekun Corps is not a political tool. It is a non-partisan, community-based network committed to combating insecurity in Osun State,” he added.
The Commander concluded with a call to the public: support the Corps’ mission instead of spreading misinformation, which only undermines the morale of officers risking their lives daily.
As the war of words escalates, Osun residents await clarity, while Amotekun continues its operations in the state, striving to maintain security amid political friction.
