Mali TikTok Influencer Executed Amid Rising Jihadist Violence

 

A popular TikTok influencer in Mali, Mariam Cissé, was publicly executed by suspected jihadists in the town of Niono, central Mali. Cissé, who was known for supporting the country’s ruling junta on social media, was abducted and later shot in a public square.

Witnesses said the execution was carried out in front of dozens of residents as a warning to others seen as sympathetic to the government. Her killing marks a new phase of violence by extremist groups expanding their influence across Mali.

Human rights groups have condemned the act as “barbaric” and urged international intervention to address worsening insecurity in the Sahel region. The Malian military government has promised a strong response.
