The growing infiltration of unlicensed agents and pseudo-scientific methods in property transactions across Osun State has sparked deep concern among stakeholders in the real estate sector.



Oyeleye Solomon, founder of Hills of Purpose International Ministry (Jerusalem Ministries), who recently visited Osun State, has called the attention of the state government to what he described as an “alarming and unacceptable rise in agency fees and skyrocketing rent.”


According to him, the economic reality in Osun State does not justify the outrageous charges now associated with renting apartments.

“When you look at the Osun economy and then hear the amount demanded by some landlords and agents, you would wonder if people now have to break their bank before they can afford a place to live,” he said.


Oyeleye stressed that the regulatory bodies, particularly, Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVRABON) and Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers NIESV, appear slow in responding to the crisis. He urged them to collaborate more closely with the state government to curb the activities of unlicensed practitioners who have turned property letting into “a gold-mining business at the expense of ordinary citizens.”


He warned that failure to act swiftly will further widen the gap between housing affordability and the average income of residents.
