“I Feel Safe in Nigeria”: Boris Johnson Shrugs Off Security Concerns at Imo Economic Summit

 


Former United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has dismissed widespread security concerns in Nigeria, declaring that he feels “perfectly safe” during his visit to the country.


Johnson made the remark on Tuesday while speaking at the Imo State Economic Summit, where he appeared as a special guest. His statement comes at a time Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of insurgency, banditry, and political instability across various regions.



“I feel perfectly safe in Nigeria,” Johnson said, countering recurring narratives in foreign media that portray the country as too dangerous for international engagement. His comment immediately triggered reactions across social platforms.


One of the most notable responses came from Mike Arnold, a commentator who sharply criticized the former PM’s remarks. Arnold accused Britain of having a historical and ongoing role in Nigeria’s security challenges, stating:
