Osimhen Breaks Silence on Napoli Fallout, Alleges Disrespect and Online Mockery

 

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has opened up on the circumstances surrounding his controversial departure from Italian side SSC Napoli, alleging that he was “treated like a dog” during the final phase of his stay at the club in 2024.


Speaking in an interview with Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 27-year-old forward revealed that tensions began to escalate in late 2023 after videos perceived to be mocking him surfaced on the club’s official TikTok page.

According to Osimhen, the situation worsened after he missed a penalty during a Serie A fixture, an incident that was later turned into a satirical post by the club’s social media handlers. The striker noted that what many initially dismissed as humour had deeper implications for him personally and professionally.

Further backlash followed when online users resurfaced an older clip alleged to contain racially insensitive undertones, intensifying criticism and fuelling widespread debate among fans and pundits.
