"If I Become President, Independent Candidates Will Contest Elections" — Chief CBN Onwuasoanya Ezendigbo

 Chief CBN Onwuasoanya Ezendigbo has called for sweeping political reforms in Nigeria, promising that independent candidates would be allowed to contest elections if he ever becomes President.

Speaking on Oriontimes, Ezendigbo said Nigeria's democracy requires radical reforms that will widen political participation and strengthen accountability.

"If I become President, I will allow independent candidates to contest elections. There will be a radical political change," he declared.

He stressed that Nigeria must establish effective checks and balances to prevent abuse of power and ensure elected officials remain accountable to the people.

"There should be proper checks and balances in politics. Democracy can only thrive when leaders know they are answerable to the citizens."

Ezendigbo urged Nigeria to learn from democratic systems where leaders can be removed through constitutional processes when they fail to meet public expectations.

He also referenced developments in South Africa, noting the country's immigration actions against some Nigerians as another reason why Nigeria must improve governance and create opportunities at home.

"We should build a country where our citizens do not feel compelled to leave in search of better opportunities."

Speaking on environmental concerns, he expressed worry over the impact of persistent rainfall across parts of Nigeria, saying inadequate infrastructure has left many communities vulnerable to flooding and destruction.

"Look at our environment. Steady rainfall is destroying many things because we have failed to plan and invest in resilient infrastructure."

Ezendigbo concluded by urging leaders to focus on good governance, responsible use of public resources, and policies that restore confidence in Nigeria's future.
