French football star Kylian Mbappé has strongly condemned Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla following alleged racist remarks she made after France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement shared on social media, the France captain described the senator as "despicable" and "unworthy" of holding public office, insisting that her comments did not represent the people of Paraguay.
"Mrs. Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honor throughout the competition," Mbappé wrote.
He further lamented that the senator's alleged racist remarks had overshadowed Paraguay's remarkable World Cup journey.
"Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country," he added.
Mbappé concluded his response with a firm stand against discrimination, declaring: "I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world."
The controversy erupted after France eliminated Paraguay from the World Cup with a 1-0 victory, a match decided by Mbappé's penalty. The senator's alleged comments sparked widespread criticism from football fans, public officials, and anti-racism advocates.
The French Football Federation has announced plans to pursue legal action over the alleged racist abuse, while the governments of both France and Paraguay have publicly distanced themselves from the senator's remarks. Paraguayan authorities emphasized that Amarilla's comments were made in her personal capacity and do not reflect the values of the Paraguayan people or government.
The incident has reignited global conversations about racism in football, with many calling for stronger accountability for discriminatory speech, regardless of whether it comes from supporters, public officials, or other influential figures.
Mbappé has consistently been one of football's most outspoken voices against racism, using his platform to advocate for equality, dignity, and respect both on and off the pitch.
