Accord Alleges APC Violence Won't Derail Adeleke's Re-election Bid

 

Party Accuses Oyebamiji of Orchestrating Attacks, Says Osun Voters Remain Undeterred

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, of allegedly sponsoring violence and intimidation ahead of the August 15 governorship election, insisting that such actions will not prevent the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, on Sunday, the party was reacting to what it described as a "falsehood-laden statement" issued by the Osun APC, alleging that the opposition party has resorted to violence in a bid to influence the outcome of the election.

According to the Accord Party, Osun residents are familiar with what it described as the APC's alleged history of political violence, claiming that several members of opposition parties have lost their lives or sustained injuries in politically motivated attacks over the years.

The party alleged that more than 40 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were killed during the 2022 governorship election, adding that no one has been prosecuted over the incidents.

It further claimed that in 2026, eight Accord members were allegedly killed while more than 20 others sustained gunshot injuries in attacks it linked to supporters of the APC governorship candidate. The party also alleged that some of its members had been arrested on what it described as trumped-up charges.

Accord further alleged that over 60 of its members are currently being detained without trial, accusing certain security operatives of collaborating with APC supporters to intimidate opposition members. 

Despite the claims, the party expressed confidence that Osun voters would not be intimidated, insisting that Governor Adeleke's re-election remains achievable through the ballot.

The statement concluded by urging residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to exercising their democratic rights during the forthcoming governorship election.
