Impediment Of Population Census In Gambia


About weeks ago, The Gambia embarks upon National Population Census  which takes place every ten years,  His Excellency President Adama Barrow had before the exercise welcomed delegates from the Gambia Bureau of Statistics as he was interviewed and counted. 



One of the agents who was very dedicated in discharge of his duties, at Brufut in Banjul, Sarjo Jallow, in an interview with Orionframe correspondent, described the challenges of coming to compound while the owner was not around as  an impediment.


"According to Jallow, There are so many places we gets into where all the doors were closed, some households were adamant to giving out  information about them and their families, they considers the act as threat. But because of what we were assigned to do, we are making sure that everyone is counted.




The exercise which begun on 25th May, 2024. However, expected to lapse for one to two months as the last Census was carried out in 2013.



The Gambia Bureau of Statistics Group (GBOS, Wednesday, June 12, says that at the ongoing exercise, Gambia's population this year has passed 2.2 million.
