Oba Makama Urges Traditional Rulers to Secure Their Domains, Warns of Foreign Infiltration

Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, CON, Tegbosun III, has renewed his call for Nigerians to unite in unwavering support of the Nigerian Army as the nation faces mounting security threats from insurgents and foreign mercenaries.

In a statement released by his media office in Kuta over the weekend, the respected monarch raised alarm over the infiltration of the country by various militia groups and foreign fighters, describing the development as a dire threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Oba Makama emphasized the critical role of traditional rulers in safeguarding their domains, stating, “We must take proactive steps to ensure our communities are safe and fortified against the encroachment of these hydra-headed terrorists.”

He praised the Nigerian Army for its pivotal role in preserving national unity and territorial integrity, urging all citizens to rally behind the military in what he described as a battle for the soul of the nation.

“As we all know, the Nigerian Army is the backbone of our territorial integrity,

the symbol of our sovereignty. We must not allow them to fight this war alone. To keep Nigeria as one is a task that must be achieved. Failure to do so would be an ill wind that blows no one any good.”

The monarch expressed concern over reports of foreign involvement in the insurgency, describing it as “unthinkable” that nationals of countries like Pakistan have been allegedly caught training Boko Haram fighters.

“These enemies of our country are acquiring sophisticated weapons including UAVs (drones) and advanced military hardware to confront our troops. This is not a time for complacency. We must all act now.”

Oba Makama also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of troops. “The Army under the current COAS has shown a commendable spirit of sacrifice and professionalism. Leading from the front is the hallmark of true leadership, and Lt. General Lagbaja has exemplified that,” he stated.

The Olowu’s call comes at a time when national cohesion and collective vigilance are more crucial than ever, as Nigeria navigates complex layers of internal and external threats.
