Attempted Assassination: Osun Amotekun Commander Survives Gun Attack — Board Chairman AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd) Condemns “Cowardly Assault”

The Chairman of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd), has condemned in strong terms the assassination attempt on the Corps Commander, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, describing it as “a cowardly and unprovoked assault on the peace and stability of Osun State.”

The shocking incident occurred on Monday night, October 6, 2025, when Commander Omoyele was reportedly ambushed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen while returning home from his office. He sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility. Sources confirmed that his condition is stable, and he remains under protective watch.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, on behalf of the Board Chairman, AIG Abbas expressed outrage at the attack, emphasizing that it was a deliberate attempt to silence a key figure in the state’s ongoing fight against crime.

 “This is a direct assault on the peace and stability of Osun State. The attackers are enemies of progress who seek to destabilize our collective effort to make Osun safe,” the statement read.

AIG Abbas called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation and ensure that those behind the attack are apprehended and prosecuted. He also appealed to residents of the state to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security operatives by providing credible intelligence that could prevent future occurrences.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to public safety, the retired police chief vowed that the attack would not deter the Amotekun Corps from carrying out its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.

“Let it be known that this cowardly act will only strengthen our resolve to rid Osun State of criminal elements. We will not be intimidated,” Abbas stated.

“We call on all residents to stand united against violence and to continue supporting security personnel in their effort to maintain peace.”

The Osun Amotekun Corps has, in recent months, intensified its operations against armed robbery, cultism, and kidnapping across the state, a campaign that has reportedly disrupted several criminal networks.
