Nicki Minaj Calls for End to Killings, Demands Freedom for Christians in Nigeria

American rapper and global music icon Nicki Minaj has once again raised her voice over the persistent killings and insecurity in Nigeria, calling for an immediate end to the violence and urging freedom for Christians across the country.


In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Minaj delivered a strongly worded, faith-based message expressing deep concern about the situation in Nigeria. Quoting a Christian hymn, the award-winning artist wrote in capital letters: “FREE THE CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!! STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” The post quickly gained widespread attention, sparking global conversations online.

j’s latest intervention follows her similar comments in November during a United Nations–related briefing focused on global religious freedom. At the briefing, violence against Christians in Nigeria featured prominently, with US official Michael Waltz describing the situation as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos.”


Waltz cited incidents including church burnings, killings of pastors, kidnappings, and sustained attacks on Christian communities, particularly in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and parts of the northern region. Referencing data from Christian advocacy group Open Doors, he claimed that approximately 80 per cent of global violence against Christians occurs in Nigeria.


Speaking at the same briefing, Minaj stated that Christians in Nigeria were being targeted specifically because of their faith, adding that many communities now live in constant fear. She described the crisis as part of a broader global challenge facing persecuted religious groups and thanked former US President Donald Trump for previously drawing international attention to the issue.


However, the Nigerian government has consistently rejected claims that the violence is religiously motivated. Authorities maintain that insecurity in the country is largely driven by banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, rather than targeted religious persecution.


Despite official denials, international figures, advocacy groups, and global observers continue to raise concerns about the scale of killings and Nigeria’s overall security situation, keeping the issue firmly in the global spotlight.
