Osun at Risk? ACCORD Faults APC Over Alleged Illegal Primary Move

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ACCORD) hereby draws the attention of the good people of Osun State, Nigerians at large, and the international community to an alleged desperate and calculated attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sow seeds of confusion, disunity, and instability in the state through the orchestration of an illegal and parallel primary election in the name of ACCORD.


This latest development represents yet another political gimmick by a party struggling to come to terms with its waning influence in Osun State, particularly in the face of the overwhelming acceptance, popularity, and goodwill currently enjoyed by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke (Imole), following his declaration and affiliation with ACCORD.


Unable to match the political momentum, grassroots support, and broad followership commanded by Governor Adeleke, the APC has allegedly resorted to clandestine tactics aimed at destabilising both ACCORD and the peace of the state. Chief among these is the sponsorship of a known APC card-carrying member, Mr. Segun Alex Ayodele Fanibe, who is being paraded as an aspirant of ACCORD with the apparent intention of provoking internal crisis within our party and confusion among the electorate.





For the avoidance of doubt and to lay any ambiguity to rest, available records clearly show that Mr. Fanibe has no current affiliation with ACCORD. He exited the party as far back as 2018. More revealing is his active participation as a delegate in the recently concluded and widely reported APC governorship primary election. These facts alone render any claim of affiliation with ACCORD not only false but null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.


This defiant and provocative move is not merely an attack on ACCORD as a political party; it poses a direct threat to the peace, stability, and democratic order of Osun State. The attempt to organise or parade any parallel primary election under the name of ACCORD is fraudulent, misleading, and highly provocative, exposing a brand of politics rooted in deception, impersonation, and desperation.


History bears witness that similar tactics have been deployed in the past with the same objectives: to distract focused leadership, mislead voters, and generate unnecessary political tension. However, such schemes have consistently collapsed under the weight of truth and public scrutiny.


While these plans continue to be conceived in the shadows, we remain confident that truth will always prevail. As it has done before, providence will continue to expose every attempt aimed at undermining the collective will of the people. We therefore urge the good people of Osun State to remain vigilant and discerning, particularly against political actors who appear disconnected from the genuine aspirations of the electorate.


ACCORD remains a law-abiding, democratic, and peace-loving political party. Only processes duly recognised and sanctioned by the appropriate national leadership of the party are valid. Consequently, any purported primary election or aspirant operating outside these recognised processes stands invalid, null, and void.


We hereby call on security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all relevant authorities to take note of this emerging plot, which appears designed to disrupt public peace and democratic stability in Osun State.


Osun has moved forward. The people have clearly chosen peace, performance, and purposeful leadership. No amount of political scheming can obstruct the victory of the people at the altar of democracy.
