APC Closes Ranks in Osun as Oyebamiji Emerges Consensus Guber Candidate, Omisore Absent

 Ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a former Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).



Oyebamiji’s emergence followed the conclusion of the party’s governorship primary election held on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.



Announcing the outcome of the exercise, former governorship aspirant, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, disclosed that Oyebamiji’s affirmation was in line with the decision of the APC National Working Committee (NWC).


Adegoke stated that all other aspirants voluntarily stepped down to adopt Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate.


“I, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, with the consent of all other aspirants, move the motion that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji be adopted as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2026 governorship election. I so move,” he declared.


The motion was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare, sealing Oyebamiji’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer.


Following the adoption, all 1,660 accredited delegates at the primary election unanimously cast their votes in support of Oyebamiji.


Notable aspirants present at the venue included former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Dotun Babayemi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Oralusi, while former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti (Omisore), was absent.


The Chairman of the Osun APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, formally announced Oyebamiji as the duly elected candidate of the party.


In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji called for unity within the party, urging all aspirants and stakeholders to work together to secure victory for the APC in the 2026 general election.


He also observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late immediate past APC State Chairman, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, and a former local government chairman, Hon. Abass, who was murdered during the recent local government leadership crisis in the state.
