The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, Hon. Idowu Abiodun, has reaffirmed the critical role of grassroots governance in enhancing security, as local councils distributed motorcycles to security agencies across the state.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Abiodun described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening security operations, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities. He emphasized that the gesture goes beyond the provision of equipment, representing a firm commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“Security remains the foundation of any meaningful development. Without peace and stability, no society can thrive,” he said, noting that local governments, as the closest tier of government to the people, are best positioned to respond to community-specific challenges.
The ALGON chairman attributed the success of the initiative to the growing autonomy of local governments in Nigeria, stressing that increased financial and administrative independence has enabled councils to act swiftly and effectively.
According to him, “When local governments are empowered to manage their resources and set their priorities, the impact is immediate and far-reaching. This initiative is a clear testament to what autonomy can achieve.”
Abiodun further disclosed that additional security equipment and vehicles would be distributed in the coming weeks, signaling a sustained commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture.
He also commended security personnel for their dedication and sacrifices, urging them to make judicious use of the motorcycles to improve response time and enhance patrol operations.

Gotan praised Abiodun’s leadership and commitment to grassroots development, describing the donation as timely and impactful. He noted that the motorcycles would significantly enhance security operations, particularly in improving mobility, response time, and patrol efficiency in rural areas.
“This gesture clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of our communities. It will greatly support our efforts in combating crime and ensuring a safer environment for all,” the police commissioner said.
He assured that the motorcycles would be effectively deployed to strengthen ongoing security operations, while also reiterating the need for collaboration between security agencies and the public.
