Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso Sworn In for New Term as Barrow Joins African Leaders in Brazzaville

 President Adama Barrow of The Gambia on Thursday joined fellow African leaders in Brazzaville for the inauguration of Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, underscoring The Gambia’s commitment to regional cooperation and democratic governance.



Barrow attended the swearing-in ceremony as a special guest, reaffirming his country’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties across the continent and supporting democratic processes, including free and fair elections.


Large crowds of Congolese citizens lined major routes leading to the Stade de l’UnitΓ©, celebrating Nguesso’s inauguration for another term as Head of State. The atmosphere was vibrant, with cultural displays, music, and colourful traditional attire reflecting the nation’s rich heritage.

Brazzaville became a focal point for African diplomacy, hosting numerous Heads of State and high-level delegations who gathered to witness the ceremony. The event, marked by the oath of office, signaled the beginning of a new mandate for Nguesso, who leads a nation of over five million people.


The large turnout at the Unity Stadium was seen as a reflection of public confidence, with official figures indicating 94.90 percent support and optimism about the country’s future under Nguesso’s leadership.


In his remarks, President Nguesso pledged to uphold the constitution, accelerate national development, and encouraged young people to embrace innovation and take advantage of technological opportunities.


Later in the day, President Barrow joined other dignitaries at a state banquet held in honour of the inauguration.


Barrow was accompanied by key members of his delegation, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Honourable Sering Modou, and Chief of Staff Alieu Loum.


Upon arrival in Brazzaville on Wednesday evening, the Gambian leader and his entourage were warmly received by members of the Gambian community in the city. He also held a meeting with the diaspora before departing on Friday morning.
