NDC Solidarity Movement Backs King Adekunle Okuneye, Rejects Alleged Plot to Destabilize Lagos Leadership

 The Nigeria Democratic Congress Solidarity Movement Parliament in Lagos State has thrown its full weight behind the Hon. King Adekunle Okuneye-led Executive Council of the party, describing the leadership as the legitimate and duly elected structure steering the affairs of the party in the state.



In an open letter dated May 25, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman and National Leadership of the party in Abuja, the group reaffirmed its unwavering endorsement of the Lagos State Executive Council that emerged after the May 4, 2026 State Congress.

According to the letter signed by Comrade Babatunde Femi Johnson, State Leader of the NDC Solidarity Movement Parliament, the congress was duly monitored by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission and observed by relevant stakeholders, leading to the emergence of Hon. King Adekunle Okuneye as Pro-tem State Chairman through what the group described as a transparent consensus process.

The group hailed Okuneye’s leadership as a symbol of renewal, hope, and purposeful political direction for the party in Lagos State, which it described as Nigeria’s economic and political nerve centre.

Reacting to recent calls for a purported “vote of no confidence” against the Lagos leadership of the party, the movement dismissed the campaign as “mischievous, baseless, and orchestrated by faceless individuals.”

The parliament alleged that those behind the move were political moles allegedly working in the interest of the ruling party with the aim of creating division and destabilizing the growing opposition structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We unequivocally reject this ill-conceived campaign in its entirety,” the statement read, insisting that genuine members of the party would not allow external forces to weaken the party’s structure in Lagos State.

The group further urged party faithful across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos to remain united, vigilant, and committed to protecting the integrity of the party’s lawful leadership.

The NDC Solidarity Movement Parliament also called on the national leadership of the party to continue giving full backing to the Hon. King Adekunle Okuneye-led Executive Council, while disregarding petitions or communications emanating from unnamed groups challenging the legitimacy of the leadership.

Additionally, the group appealed for an internal investigation aimed at identifying and exposing individuals allegedly working against the party’s interests from within.

Reaffirming confidence in the current Lagos leadership, the parliament expressed optimism that the party would continue to grow stronger under Okuneye’s leadership and eventually deliver what it described as the “much-needed change Lagosians desire.”

The open letter was copied to members of the National Working Committee, the Lagos State office of INEC, and stakeholders of the party across the state.
