Osun Amotekun Strengthens Security Synergy With Correctional Service, FRSC; Calls For Unity Among Security Agencies

The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has reiterated the importance of collaboration, unity, and mutual respect among security agencies in ensuring effective security operations across Osun State.

Speaking during separate courtesy visits to the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Corps Commander stated that the visits formed part of deliberate efforts by the Osun Amotekun Corps management to engage all security stakeholders and strengthen operational synergy for the protection of lives and property.

During the visit to the Comptroller of Correctional Service, CC Rotimi Oluwadele, High Chief Omoyele expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to his team and stressed that security remains a collective responsibility that requires strategic partnership and understanding among agencies.

According to him, collaboration remains the key to successful security operations, adding that while disagreements may occasionally arise among stakeholders, such differences should always be resolved amicably in the interest of peace and stability in Osun State.

He urged the Nigerian Correctional Service in Osun State to continue working closely with the Osun Amotekun Corps, emphasizing that all security agencies must see themselves as one united family with a shared objective of safeguarding the people.

The Corps Commander noted that unity and vigilance remain critical in preventing criminal activities within communities.

“As the proverb says, ‘If the wall does not open, the lizard cannot enter.’ When security agencies stand together in unity, criminals will have no hiding place in our society,” he stated.

He further called for love, tolerance, intelligence sharing, and strengthened cooperation among security operatives to effectively combat crime and sustain peace across the state.

Speaking further during the engagement, High Chief Omoyele described the Correctional Service as a reform-oriented institution that plays a significant role in rehabilitating offenders and reconnecting them with society and their families.

He commended officers and personnel of the service for their humane approach to inmate management, noting that correctional facilities provide opportunities for reformation and reintegration rather than punishment alone.

The Corps Commander also applauded the late former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, for championing the establishment of the Amotekun security initiative in the South-West region for the protection of lives and property.

He clarified that the Osun Amotekun Corps is not in rivalry with any other security agency, stressing that the Corps was established to complement existing security structures whenever necessary.

According to him, all security agencies reserve the right to correct erring personnel professionally, without hostility or unnecessary confrontation.

High Chief Omoyele disclosed that since assuming office, efforts have been intensified to restructure and reposition the Corps for improved operational efficiency, yielding positive results across the state. He added that the state government remains committed to strengthening the Corps through further recruitment of qualified operatives.

“The essence of our visitation is collaboration. We want all agencies to see us as brothers working towards a common goal,” he added.

In his response, Comptroller of Correctional Service, CC Rotimi Oluwadele, appreciated the Corps Commander, the Field Commander Dr. Capt. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, and the entire management team of Osun Amotekun for the collaborative visit.

He commended the efforts of the Amotekun Corps in addressing security challenges in the state, noting that the establishment of the regional security outfit became necessary due to prevailing security gaps at the time.

The Comptroller also paid tribute to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and other South-West governors for the bold initiative that led to the creation of Amotekun, describing it as a significant contribution to humanity and community safety.

CC Oluwadele emphasized that no security agency should undermine another, as every institution plays a vital role in maintaining public safety and national stability.

Using the Fire Service as an example, he explained that all agencies possess unique responsibilities that complement one another within the broader security architecture.

He explained that the Correctional Service operates under the principle of the “3Rs” — Reformation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration — aimed at transforming offenders into responsible members of society.

According to him, the service also promotes community service initiatives and family reconciliation efforts for inmates who may have been abandoned or stigmatized by relatives.

On security synergy, the Comptroller noted that the Correctional Service has consistently maintained cordial relationships with all security agencies since his assumption of office in Osun State.

He urged the leadership of the Amotekun Corps to continually sensitize junior officers on the importance of inter-agency cooperation and mutual respect.

He further commended the ongoing restructuring within the Corps and acknowledged positive reports about the leadership style of the Corps Commander.

In his vote of thanks, ACC S.O. Johnson appreciated the Amotekun management team for the visit and praised the operational performance of the Corps, particularly from his previous experience in Ondo State.

He advised the Corps to strengthen collaboration with the judiciary and establish robust legal support mechanisms capable of addressing operational challenges, especially in matters relating to federal offences.

Responding, the Field Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Dr. Capt. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, stated that the Corps possesses a functional legal department capable of handling prosecutions effectively.

He reiterated that the purpose of the visit was to deepen collaboration and strengthen synergy among security agencies in the state.

Similarly, during the courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Osun State Command, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele appreciated the Sector Commander, S.T Adebayo, for receiving the Amotekun management team.

He noted that the engagement was also part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and ensure improved safety and security across Osun State.

The Corps Commander reiterated that security and safety responsibilities require collective commitment, mutual understanding, and effective partnership among all relevant stakeholders.

In his response, the Sector Commander of the FRSC Osun Command, S.T Adebayo, appreciated the Corps Commander and his team for the visit and commended the professionalism of Osun Amotekun personnel.

He explained that the FRSC, established in 1988, operates through multiple departments dedicated to protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads.

Describing High Chief Omoyele as a man of integrity and courage, the Sector Commander affirmed the readiness of the FRSC to work closely with the Osun Amotekun Corps in advancing public safety.

He emphasized that the Corps Commander had chosen collaboration over confrontation, a decision he described as vital for effective security management.

The FRSC Commander also commended the commitment and sacrifices of Amotekun operatives across the state and stressed the need for continuous motivation and recognition for personnel contributing to public security.

He concluded by assuring the Amotekun Corps of sustained cooperation, emphasizing that both agencies remain united in their shared responsibility of protecting lives and maintaining peace in Osun State.
