Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Shettima is expected to represent the President at the high-level global gathering, where world leaders and senior government officials will deliberate on pressing international issues, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate action, economic cooperation and the future of multilateralism.
The Vice President is also scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate, presenting the country’s perspectives on issues of national, continental and global importance.
The Nigerian delegation is expected to include senior government officials and state governors, among other representatives.
The assignment marks another occasion on which Vice President Shettima will represent President Tinubu at the annual United Nations gathering, underscoring Nigeria’s continued engagement with the multilateral institution.
Nigeria’s participation at the 81st UNGA is expected to provide an opportunity for the country to articulate its development priorities, strengthen diplomatic engagements and advance areas of cooperation with international partners.
The 81st United Nations General Assembly is holding in New York, United States, with the high-level General Debate scheduled for September 22–28, 2026.
