Governor to Convene State Security Council Meeting as DSS Moves to Counter Alleged Plots Targeting Places of Worship
OSOGBO – Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals, movements, or activities within their communities amid reports of planned terrorist attacks on places of worship across the state.
The governor's appeal follows intelligence reports indicating alleged threats to public safety, particularly around worship centres and border communities. He urged citizens to see security as a collective responsibility by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke stressed the importance of intelligence gathering and community participation in preventing any security breach.
"We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports on noticeable threats within our communities. As we are aware of alleged plots to attack our places of worship, we must become extra vigilant. Report anything unusual without any delay," the governor stated.
Adeleke commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for its proactive efforts in responding to the reported threats and urged other security agencies to reassess the situation and strengthen measures aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
"I commend the Department of State Service (DSS) for taking proactive measures to counter the threats. I charge other security agencies to review the situation and develop an action plan to strengthen security of lives and properties," he added.
The governor further disclosed plans to convene a meeting of the State Security Council to evaluate the security situation and review existing response mechanisms.
"I will soon convey the State Security Council meeting to assess the situation and the workability of our response plans. As residents of this state, we must collaborate with the security agencies through information sharing," he said.
Governor Adeleke also called on traditional rulers to mobilize their councils and communities in support of ongoing security efforts, stressing the need to monitor unfamiliar persons entering various localities.
"We should be wary of people we host in our communities. On this note, I charge our royal fathers to also host their traditional council meetings on this development. We must nip in the bud the evil plans of enemies of public peace," the governor stated.
Reaffirming his administration's commitment to maintaining peace and stability, Adeleke said the state government would continue to work closely with security agencies to prevent any attempt by terrorists, bandits, or criminal elements to disrupt public order.
"Our administration is committed to post-election peace building and we must tighten state security to foil any attempt by terrorists and bandits to disrupt public peace," the governor said.
The development comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of the country, with authorities intensifying surveillance and intelligence operations to forestall potential attacks and maintain public safety.
