S.A. Student, Who Mistakenly Received $954,000 Gets 5 years In Prison For Theft

South African student, Sibongile Mani, who mistakenly received $954,000 (R14 million) was sentenced to 5 years in prison for theft.


She spent $55,816 out of the money on cigarettes, toys, alcohol and bedding.


It was sent to her by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.


She appealed the 5-year sentence. Her lawyer pleaded for the sentence to be suspended.


Her appeal is still in court, and the sentence hasn't been suspended yet 


She was elected as a convocation committee Treasurer at her university in March 2023.
