In a just world, Asisat Oshoala would have been paraded in glittering halls of global football as a Ballon d'Or winner, not merely a nominee, or worse, an afterthought. But in the world of football politics and media-blessed narratives, talent alone is never enough. Especially not when you're African, female, and unapologetically excellent.




For years, Oshoala carried not just the Nigerian flag, but the aspirations of an entire continent. From scoring in Champions League finals to topping goal charts in Spain's Liga F, her stats screamed Ballon d'Or but the silence from the award gatekeepers was deafening. When you dominate at FC Barcelona FemenΓ­, win league titles, conquer Europe, and still don’t crack the top three, questions must be asked.
