Women Should Not Just Wait to Be Women Leaders – They Have the Potential to Lead the Nation”
OOPA Hosts Osun REC Chairman, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, at 9th Media Parley
Osogbo, Osun State – The Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) hosted the 9th media parley with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, in a session aimed at fostering transparency and public understanding of the electoral process.
Addressing journalists, OOPA Chairman Mukhtar Ajelogbon emphasized the professionalism of the association, noting, “You might have read different kinds of news, but this association comprises trained and professional journalists from Osun State and across Nigeria.”
Fielding questions from media practitioners, REC Chairman Dr. Agboke reiterated INEC’s commitment to openness, stating, “We opened our doors for everybody to understand our operations. We have clear procedures when it comes to prosecuting offenders, but in Osun State, there is currently no offender. Sensitive collation processes are closely monitored by our staff.”
Oriontimes asked On the role of women in leadership, Dr. Agboke stated, “Women are often recognized only in the capacity of women leaders. Yet, they have the potential to become presidents of this country. At INEC, {https://www.inecnigeria.org}we create a level playing field for everyone to participate. Aspirants must take their destiny into their own hands; opportunities are not simply handed out.”
Addressing youth engagement, he observed, “Youth campaign engagement and reengagement often reduce them to mere tools for elections. Many of those arrested for electoral offences are of parliamentary age. Much of the violence we see today is youth-led, which is why the media must remain active in sensitization.”
The interactive session underscored INEC’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and proactive engagement with the media and citizens as Osun State prepares for the 2026 elections.
