Cameroon’s long-time leader, President Paul Biya, has been declared winner of the October 12, 2025 presidential election, securing another term in office. The 92-year-old, who has ruled the Central African nation since 1982, remains the world’s oldest serving head of state.
According to official results released by Cameroon’s Constitutional Council, Biya garnered 53.66 percent of the total votes, defeating his closest challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who received 35.19 percent.
The outcome, however, has been met with tension and opposition protests across several cities, as Bakary’s camp rejected the result, citing irregularities and voter intimidation.
