Authorities in Cambodia have evacuated dozens of families from Prey Chan village after a resident was fatally shot during a confrontation along the country’s tense border with Thailand.
The incident, which involved Thai soldiers and local civilians, reignited longstanding disputes over territory surrounding Banteay Meanchey province.
Eyewitnesses say the shooting happened during a routine patrol, triggering panic and forcing the Cambodian government to move residents to safer ground.
Officials in Phnom Penh described the evacuation as a “precautionary emergency response” to prevent further casualties.
Meanwhile, diplomatic channels between both countries have reopened in hopes of avoiding a larger cross-border conflict.
