Nancy Pelosi Retires: End of 40-Year Political Era as Trump Reacts

Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced she will not seek re-election, bringing an end to a nearly 40-year career in Congress and marking a historic transition in American politics.

Pelosi, 85, who made history as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, confirmed she will step aside after completing her current term. She expressed gratitude to her San Francisco constituents and said the time had come for a new generation to lead.

“With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service,” Pelosi said, reflecting on decades that shaped domestic policy, foreign affairs, and the legislative direction of the Democratic Party.

During her tenure, Pelosi played a central role in landmark U.S. legislation, including the Affordable Care Act, and led the House through two impeachment proceedings against former  and now current President Donald Trump.

Trump Reacts

Reacting to the announcement, President Donald Trump welcomed Pelosi’s exit, describing it as beneficial to the United States.

“The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America,” Trump said.

He referred to Pelosi as “evil” and “corrupt,” framing her departure as a victory for the country.

The sharp reaction underscores the deeply polarized nature of American politics. Pelosi and Trump had a tense and combative political relationship that defined much of Washington’s climate in recent years.

End of an Era

Pelosi’s

retirement signals a generational shift within the Democratic Party as younger lawmakers prepare to step into leadership roles. Analysts say her departure will reshape power dynamics in Congress and influence the direction of Democratic strategy going into future elections.

Political observers describe Pelosi’s exit as the close of a powerful chapter, one characterized by historic firsts, fierce partisanship, and an unmatched legislative footprint.

As she prepares for her final months in office, questions now turn to who will rise to fill the void left by one of the most influential figures in modern U.S. politics.
