Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced she will not seek re-election, bringing an end to a nearly 40-year career in Congress and marking a historic transition in American politics.


Pelosi, 85, who made history as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, confirmed she will step aside after completing her current term. She expressed gratitude to her San Francisco constituents and said the time had come for a new generation to lead.
