Former United States President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at Nigeria, accusing the federal government of failing to curb rising insecurity across the country.
Speaking on Fox News Radio’s “The Brian Kilmeade Show” on Friday, Trump described Nigeria as “a disgrace,” alleging that the government has done little to stop what he termed widespread killings.
“I think Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace. They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide. And I’m really angry about it,” he said during the interview.
Trump further claimed that the U.S. provides significant subsidies to Nigeria, support he suggested could soon be halted.
“We pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidy to Nigeria, which we’re going to end up stopping,” he added.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened global attention on insecurity in parts of Nigeria, including persistent bandit attacks, communal clashes, and insurgency-related violence. His comments are expected to spark reactions both within Nigeria and among the diaspora, especially given the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Nigerian government has not yet officially responded to his latest criticisms.
