Adeleke Moves to Compensate Osogbo Rainstorm Victims, Orders Emergency Response

Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed deep sympathy with residents of Osogbo and surrounding communities following the devastating rainstorm that wreaked havoc across parts of the state on Saturday evening.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the incident as “sad, ugly, and unfortunate,” noting the extent of damage caused to homes and infrastructure.


On behalf of the government and people of Osun State, Adeleke commiserated with victims affected by the heavy downpour, assuring them that his administration would take immediate steps to ease their suffering.


“I feel deeply touched and alarmed by this incident. My administration will put in place every possible measure, both morally and officially, to support the victims and offset their losses,” the governor stated.


He disclosed that the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), alongside other relevant agencies, has been directed to swing into action to provide urgent relief and assess the level of damage.


The governor also instructed the Ministry of Works to immediately begin clearing affected roads and motorways to prevent further accidents and restore normalcy.



While attributing the increasing frequency of such disasters to climate change, Adeleke emphasized the need for collective responsibility in mitigating environmental risks. He highlighted his administration’s ongoing policy efforts aimed at addressing climate-related challenges.


He further urged residents to adopt preventive measures, including tree planting, and warned against indiscriminate felling of trees, which he said contributes to environmental vulnerability.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that those affected receive the necessary support in the aftermath of the disaster.
