It was a day filled with emotion, honour, and celebration as the Brave Women Progressive Association officially commissioned the Pa Simon Adebayo Ajeigbe Memorial Bus Stop in Ororuwo, immortalising one of the community's most respected sons whose legacy of service and development continues to inspire generations.
The colourful event attracted traditional rulers, government officials, members of the Ajeigbe family, community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents who gathered to celebrate the life and enduring impact of the late Pa Simon Ajeigbe, a former State Patron of the association.
Delivering her welcome address, the President and Founder of the Brave Women Progressive Association, Evangelist Matilda Farinde, described the occasion as a historic milestone for the association and the entire Ororuwo community.
She noted that the memorial project, which commenced in May, was conceived as a lasting tribute to a man whose unwavering commitment, generosity, and dedication to the association remained unmatched until his passing.
According to her, Pa Simon Ajeigbe's support played a significant role in strengthening the association, adding that it was through his wisdom and influence that Dr. Deji Adeleke accepted to serve as the South-West Patron of the association.
Farinde said the association believed that individuals who devoted their lives to community service deserved to be remembered beyond their lifetime.
"Pa Simon Ajeigbe was a man of honour, vision, and selfless service whose contributions to the growth and development of Ororuwo remain indelible. This memorial bus stop will preserve his legacy and inspire future generations to embrace the virtues of unity, service, and community development," she stated.
She urged residents to protect and make good use of the facility while continually remembering the ideals the late elder represented.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Osun State Commissioner for Government House Affairs, Hon. Soji Ajeigbe, expressed deep appreciation to the Brave Women Progressive Association for immortalising his late father. He described the gesture as one the entire Ajeigbe family would forever cherish, noting that the honour reflected the immense respect the late patriarch earned through a lifetime of service.
Also speaking on behalf of the family, Hon. Justice Ayo Adepele Ajeigbe thanked the association for recognising the sacrifices and contributions of the late Pa Simon Ajeigbe.
She recalled that the deceased was passionately committed to the progress of Ororuwo and had several developmental plans for the community following the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke, plans that were unfortunately cut short by his death.
Community leader and Bobajiro of Ororuwo, Chief Sola Ayanbode, described the late Pa Ajeigbe as a true patriot whose life exemplified selflessness and dedication.
He recounted that despite executing contracts in different parts of Osun State, Pa Ajeigbe consistently returned to Ororuwo to employ local labourers and bricklayers, thereby creating employment opportunities for the people of his hometown.
"His love for Ororuwo was evident from his youthful days. He always wanted the town and its people to prosper," Ayanbode remarked.
Similarly, the Ojomu of Ororuwo, Chief Fatai Ajibade, praised the late elder's remarkable contributions to the town's development, saying he devoted his resources and influence to projects that advanced the welfare of the community.
Representing the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Comrade Olajide Esan commended the Brave Women Progressive Association for remembering one of its benefactors, describing the memorial as an example worthy of emulation.
He also pledged continued support for the association and its developmental initiatives.
In his royal address, the Olororuwo of Ororuwo, His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Adeyanju, lauded Evangelist Matilda Farinde and members of the Brave Women Progressive Association for ensuring that Pa Simon Ajeigbe's legacy would never be forgotten.
The monarch said the memorial bus stop was a fitting reward for a man who committed his life to the advancement of Ororuwo and consistently supported the association during his lifetime.
Oba Adeyanju further commended Hon. Justice Ayo Adepele Ajeigbe for keeping the family closely connected with the community after the passing of Pa Ajeigbe, while also praising Commissioner Soji Ajeigbe for continuing his father's tradition of supporting people irrespective of political affiliation.
According to the monarch, the late Pa Simon Ajeigbe believed strongly in humanity above politics, a value his son has continued to uphold.
The highlight of the event was the official commissioning and unveiling of the Pa Simon Adebayo Ajeigbe Memorial Bus Stop, led by His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Adeyanju alongside Evangelist Matilda Farinde, members of the Ajeigbe family, traditional chiefs, government officials, and other distinguished guests.
Among dignitaries present were the Olororuwo of Ororuwo and his Olori, the Osun State Commissioner for Government House Affairs, Hon. Soji Ajeigbe, Hon. Justice Ayo Adepele Ajeigbe, Mrs. Tella (Matron of the Brave Women Progressive Association), Comrade Olajide Esan representing the AAC governorship candidate, members of the Ororuwo Traditional Council, the Brave Women Progressive Association, and residents of Ororuwo.
The event concluded with goodwill messages, prayers, and a renewed commitment by community leaders and members of the association to sustain the ideals of selfless service, community development, and unity that defined the life of the late Pa Simon Adebayo Ajeigbe, whose memory will now remain permanently etched in the heart of Ororuwo through the memorial bus stop bearing his name.
