The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has rejected reports that Governor Ademola Adeleke urged the British Government to impose visa restrictions and economic sanctions on APC leaders over allegations of political violence.
Oyebamiji made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the British High Commission at the Osun APC Campaign Office in Osogbo.
According to the APC candidate, the reported call for sanctions was "unfounded" and should not distract from efforts to ensure a peaceful electoral process. He maintained that his party has consistently allowed security agencies to investigate incidents of political violence without attempting to influence public opinion or the international community.
Oyebamiji recalled that several APC members were allegedly killed during the build-up to the 2022 governorship election and the 2023 general elections in communities including Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ikirun, Ikire and Ede. He said the incidents were reported to the Nigeria Police Force and that some of the cases are currently before the courts.
He also referenced the killing of the Chairman of Irewole Local Government, Hon. Remi Abbas, describing it as one of several tragic incidents involving members of his party in recent years.
The APC flagbearer commended the Inspector-General of Police and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as their professionalism and urged security agencies to remain impartial throughout the election period.
Oyebamiji reaffirmed the APC's confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), expressing hope that the electoral body would provide a level playing field for all political parties ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
He further acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, noting that cooperation between both countries has continued in areas such as democracy, governance, security, education and development. He appealed for continued support for Nigeria's democratic process.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the British delegation and Senior Political Adviser, Mr. Wale Adebajo, said the engagement formed part of the High Commission's peace-building efforts ahead of the Osun governorship election.

Sunday Akere; Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi; former Managing Director of Osun Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), Dr. Tunde Faleye, and other party leaders.
