OSOGBO, August 19, 2026 — The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has denied allegations that its members are attacking supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that its members remain law-abiding despite what it described as alleged harassment and attacks by suspected APC supporters and some elements within the state police command.

The party made the position known in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, in reaction to an earlier statement by the APC.

Accord described the APC's allegations as “a concoction of lies and propaganda,” maintaining that its members had not retaliated despite what the party alleged were attacks and violence against its supporters before and during the August 15 governorship election.

According to the statement, Accord alleged that about 20 of its members were killed while approximately 30 others sustained gunshot injuries during the pre-election period.

The party further alleged that some of its members were arrested shortly before the election and claimed that several houses belonging to its supporters in Ikire were vandalised.

Accord also alleged that some of its leaders were arrested on the eve of the election, which it claimed affected the party's ability to organise its supporters across the state.

The party accused the APC of several other offences, including alleged illegal occupation of local government secretariats, alleged diversion of local government funds for campaign purposes and the overnight detention of about 60 of its members.

It also alleged that the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) was dissolved and replaced with individuals allegedly sympathetic to the APC.

Accord called for investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible for acts of violence during the election period, arguing that the APC should not portray itself as the victim without addressing the allegations levelled against its members.

“Our members are law abiding. They belong to a responsible political party, not a ‘tabon tabon’ party,” the statement added.

The party's allegations could not independently be verified by Oriontimes as of the time of filing this report.

Oriontimes reports that the latest development comes amid heightened political exchanges between the Accord and APC following the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election.

The newspaper maintains its commitment to balanced, fair and impartial reporting, and recognises that allegations contained in political statements represent the positions of the respective parties until independently established by competent authorities.
