Presidential aspirant Chief Onwuasoanya Ezendigbo has called for reforms within Nigeria's security architecture, expressing concern over what he described as the routine harassment of citizens.
Ezendigbo said that under his administration, security personnel would not arbitrarily seize or search people's mobile phones, stressing that law enforcement must operate within the limits of the law and respect citizens' rights.
He argued that Nigerians deserve a security system built on professionalism, accountability and public trust, adding that citizens should be able to distinguish genuine law enforcement officers from criminals impersonating security agents.
The presidential hopeful also criticized the quality of telecommunications services in the country, alleging that subscribers often pay for services that are not adequately delivered.
He urged network providers to improve service quality, noting that consumers should receive value for the money they spend on voice and data services.
According to Ezendigbo, strengthening public institutions and protecting citizens' rights would be among the priorities of his administration if elected.
