Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has left the country for a vacation in Europe, directing the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the emerging kingship dispute in Koka, Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke departed through the Lagos airport and is expected to visit the United Kingdom and other destinations to be announced later.
The governor is also scheduled to undergo medical examinations during the vacation.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” Adeleke said while departing.
Meanwhile, the governor directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another monarch in Koka Ilase, which has reportedly resulted in a situation involving two individuals laying claim to the kingship of the town.
The ministry was instructed to review the matter and ensure that due process is followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and the traditions of the people.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” the governor stated.
Adeleke also appealed to all stakeholders in the dispute to remain peaceful while the government addresses the matter.
“I however urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” he added.
