The charge was made on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during the fourth induction ceremony into the Physiotherapy Profession for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Class of 2026, organised by the Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

Adedoyin described the occasion as an important milestone, stressing that physiotherapy is a profession that deals directly with human lives and therefore demands a high level of professionalism and responsibility.

He urged the newly inducted physiotherapists to understand the importance of professional boundaries and accountability, noting that their conduct both within and outside the workplace could influence how members of the public perceive the profession.

According to him, the inductees must strive to become problem-solvers and contribute meaningfully to humanity.

He also described the ceremony as the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates, urging them to become worthy ambassadors of the university and the physiotherapy profession.

The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Dr Omotoso, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the students’ training and urged the inductees not to abandon the values and professional ethics they acquired during their education.

Professionalism Beyond Certificates

The keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Adesola Ojoawo, Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and focused on the theme, “Professionalism and Ethical Conduct in Physiotherapy.”

He identified competence as one of the core elements of professionalism, urging the inductees to embrace continuous learning and self-development throughout their careers.

He also highlighted behaviour, noting that the way professionals conduct themselves can either open or close opportunities.

On aptitude and attitude, Ojoawo explained that certificates, training and intelligence constitute important aspects of professional aptitude, but attitude is critical to sustaining a career.

He encouraged the new physiotherapists to remain humble, seek mentorship and learn from experienced professionals.

The keynote speaker further identified ethical behaviour and adherence to standards of practice as essential components of professional life, reminding the inductees that actions carry consequences.

He also stressed the importance of reliability, punctuality, respect and civility in building a credible professional reputation.

Registrar Charges Inductees to Uphold Virtues

The Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, Professor Ahmad Rufai, also congratulated the inductees and expressed pride in their achievement.

Rufai reminded them that their five-year academic journey had come to an end and urged them not to abandon the virtues instilled in them during their training.

He charged the inductees to allow professionalism, discipline and ethical conduct to remain guiding principles as they enter the workforce.

Earlier, the university authorities described the ceremony as a significant moment not only for the graduates but also for the Department of Physiotherapy, which continues to train professionals equipped to contribute to healthcare delivery and society.

The department, according to its leadership, has the facilities required for the training and development of physiotherapists.

The ceremony ultimately served as both a celebration of academic achievement and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with joining a profession directly concerned with human health and wellbeing.

With the induction of the 89 new physiotherapists, Redeemer’s University has formally ushered another cohort into the profession, with speakers at the event urging them to combine knowledge and technical competence with ethical conduct, humility, accountability and a commitment to serving humanity.
