LAGOS — Arise TV journalist and political commentator Rufai Oseni has responded to comments by Senate President Godswill Akpabio about praying for Nigeria while in Rome, arguing that prayers alone cannot address the country’s economic challenges.
Speaking on the Arise TV Morning Show, Oseni said Nigeria’s economic problems require concrete policy actions and institutional reforms, rather than relying solely on prayers.
He also linked the country’s economic difficulties to corruption, describing corruption as a broader issue of mindset and institutional culture that must be confronted if Nigeria is to achieve sustainable economic growth.
Oseni’s remarks came in response to Akpabio’s account of his activities in Rome, where the Senate President said he had prayed for Nigeria.
While acknowledging the place of faith, Oseni stressed that economic growth ultimately requires deliberate policies, accountability, productive investment and effective governance.
