Governor describes late Babalaje of Edeland as community-loving businessman and development advocate

OSOGBO — September 22, 2026: Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed sadness over the death of Alhaji Raheem Adetoro Lawal, a prominent businessman, community leader and distinguished son of Ede.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the late business leader as a humanitarian and passionate lover of his community who, over several decades, built his business enterprises while maintaining strong ties with his place of birth.

Adeleke also recalled his memories of growing up knowing the deceased alongside his late father, describing both as individuals who were committed to the development of Ede.

The governor commiserated with the Lawal family, the people of Ailaka Compound in Ede North Local Government Area and the entire Ede community over the loss.

He noted that the deceased's business career spanned cocoa trading, automobile dealing, sawmilling and real estate investment, which he said were pursued with diligence and integrity.

According to the governor, Alhaji Adetoro Lawal was more than a businessman, as he also contributed to the economic development of Ede and Osun State and served as an inspiration to younger generations.

“Our late Papa contributed immensely to the economic development of Ede and Osun State. As much as his death is a great loss to Ede land and Osun State at large, his legacies remain enduring,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Adeleke prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Aljanah Firdaus, while asking God to grant his family, friends and members of Ailaka Compound the fortitude to bear the loss.
