Owaloko Advocates for Peace, Unity, and True Worship at Methodist Diocese Synod

The Owaloko of Iloko Ijesa, Alayeluwa Oba Dr. Akeem Olusayo King Benjamin Ogungbangbe, Ajagbusi Ekun VI, played host today at the 13th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ijesa North. The event, held in Iloko Ijesa, drew an esteemed gathering of clergy, church members, and dignitaries from across the region.

In his welcome address, Oba Ogungbangbe warmly received the Bishops, the Lay President, Reverends, and members of the Methodist Church Nigeria. As the royal host, he expressed his pleasure at hosting such a spiritually significant event in Iloko Ijesa, noting the historical and cultural importance of the town.

The monarch also acknowledged the presence of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Dr. Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, Owa Obokun Adimula, and paramount ruler of Ijesa land, who was ably represented by HRM Oba Engr. Moses Olufemi Agunsoye, Abikehin Ekun, Agunsoye II, the Elegboro of Ijebu Ijesa, and the Onilaje of Ilaje Ijesa. He praised their leadership and enduring commitment to the unity and progress of Ijesa land.

In his address, Owaloko offered praise and adoration to Almighty God for the gift of life and peace in the land. He described Iloko Ijesa as a peaceful town, where tranquility reigns. “Anyone who has spent more than two days in this community can testify to the peace that we enjoy here,” he said. He prayed that the peace and serenity experienced in Iloko Ijesa would be a lasting blessing for all residents and visitors.

The monarch emphasized that peace is the foundation of every meaningful development, declaring that “nothing can be achieved in the absence of peace.” He urged all Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence and called for continued harmony across the nation. “May Nigeria continue to live in peace and unity,” he prayed.

Highlighting the spirit of religious tolerance in Iloko Ijesa, the Owaloko noted that there is no discrimination between Islam and Christianity in the community. He emphasized that religion is a matter of personal conviction and a connection between an individual and God. “Religion resides in the heart. It is not about the building whether a church or a mosque but about our faith and relationship with God,” he stated.

Oba Ogungbangbe’s message resonated strongly with attendees, reinforcing his image as a royal figure deeply committed to peace, unity, and spiritual development. His words served as a reminder that traditional leadership has a vital role to play in promoting harmony and progress in society.
