U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the Trump administration is moving to "aggressively revoke" the visas of certain Chinese students, particularly those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or those studying in sensitive or "critical" fields.
On Tuesday, Rubio also ordered a temporary suspension of visa interviews abroad for student and exchange programs, as the State Department ramps up scrutiny of applicants’ social media activity.
Foreign nationals who already have appointments scheduled may still be able to attend them.
President Trump added that institutions like Harvard University should reduce their intake of international students to prioritize American applicants.
