Osun Imams, Alfas Urge Tinubu to Release Withheld LG Funds, Hail Adeleke’s Leadership

 


COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE MEETING OF THE LEAGUE OF IMAMS AND ALFAS, OSUN STATE CHAPTER HELD ON AUGUST 27, 2025



The Osun State chapter of the League of Imams and Alfas, after an extensive deliberation in Osogbo today, has issued a communiqué addressing key issues affecting governance, the economy, and the Muslim Ummah in the South West.



The meeting, which was well attended by leading clerics across the state, focused on the ongoing review of voter registration, the withholding of Osun State’s local government allocations, and the rising controversies within the Muslim community in the region.



After exhaustive discussions, the assembly resolved as follows:


1. Commendation of National Leadership:

The League praised President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his ongoing reforms targeted at stabilizing the national economy and improving the welfare of Nigerians. They offered prayers for the success of the Federal Government.



2. Support for Governor Ademola Adeleke:

The clerics lauded Governor Adeleke’s “diplomatic and consensus-based leadership style,” which they said has fostered growth, stability, and peace in Osun despite the challenges posed by the lingering local government crisis.



3. Upholding Rule of Law:

The League hailed Adeleke’s respect for due process in handling the local government issue, urging all stakeholders to comply with the June 22nd ruling of the Court of Appeal, which upheld the legitimacy of the elected PDP chairmen and councillors.



4. Appeal to Federal Authorities:

Drawing attention to the hardship faced at the grassroots, the assembly urged the Federal Government to resolve the stalemate, stressing that several petitions had been received from the Muslim Ummah on the matter.



5. Direct Appeal to the President:

The League specifically appealed to President Tinubu to order the immediate release of Osun’s withheld allocations and formally recognize the elected PDP officials in line with constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act.



6. Tasking Muslim Public Office Holders:

The assembly reminded Muslim office holders, particularly those from Osun and Kwara States, to see the resolution of the issue as both a political responsibility and a sacred religious duty.



7. Voter Registration Drive:

Commending Osun’s outstanding performance in the voter registration exercise, where the state emerged first nationwide, the League urged those who registered online or have yet to collect their voter cards to do so without delay, describing voting as a religious obligation.



8. Appeal for Peace in the Ummah:

The clerics called for restraint among warring Islamic scholars in the South West, urging them to take their debates off social media and pursue reconciliation for the sake of unity.




The meeting ended with a resolution to reconvene on a date to be announced by the Secretariat.

Assassination Attempt: Police can’t deny what’s on their desk, says Amotekun boss

Driver Chop Off Vehicle Inspection Officer’s Ear Over Car Particular

  A yet-to-identified Sienna car driver has reportedly bitten the ear of a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) identified as Papu Prosper. The incident occurred during a heated argument between the officer and the driver along Eagle Roundabout by Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State.
