Commander Omoyele Denounces False Claims by Amitolu Shittu, Vows Unwavering Dedication to Security, Transparency, and the Welfare of Osun Citizens

 

The Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has issued a strong and clarifying response to recent comments and allegations levelled against his leadership by Mr. Amitolu Shittu, describing them as baseless, politically motivated, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

Upon my assumption of office as Corps Commander, Osun Amotekun was in a deplorable and unstructured state, with critical gaps in operational capacity, personnel training, and administrative coordination. It was evident that a comprehensive reform was needed to align the Corps with its foundational objective — to protect the people of Osun State from internal security threats, including banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

Under the guidance and full support of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, we embarked on a mission to rebuild and reposition the Corps. Today, I am proud to say we have made tangible progress, including:

The establishment of a befitting and functional headquarters for Osun Amotekun — a milestone that eluded the Corps before now.

A comprehensive retraining initiative for our operatives to enhance professionalism, discipline, and intelligence-based operations.

Revamping internal protocols to ensure accountability, transparency, and community-focused engagement in every area of our operations.

On Allegations by Mr. Amitolu Shittu

Mr. Shittu’s recent statements do not reflect the realities of Amotekun under the current administration. His comments are uninformed, politically coloured, and lacking in security expertise. It is unfortunate that a matter as sensitive as public safety is being reduced to political rhetoric and personal grievance.

Mr. Shittu just jumped to the security corner without no security credentials or background to objectively assess the operations of a security outfit such as Amotekun. His remarks, therefore, must be seen for what they are — the musings of a politician rather than constructive, informed critique. He was dragged many times to Zone XI on account of miss firing by his men, the records are there unless he was the case to be reopened. He has forgotten that he was accused of theft of two Amotekun operational vehicles that he has not returned till date.

On Recruitment Integrity

Let me emphatically state that the recruitment process into Osun Amotekun is merit-based, transparent, and rigorous. Applicants are required to apply through our official digital platform, and are subjected to:

Physical fitness and capability assessments

Comprehensive medical screenings

Thorough background checks

Verification by credible guarantors, including Royal Fathers, Clergy, or senior civil servants (Grade Level 12 and above)

We make no compromises when it comes to the integrity of our personnel. Any insinuation of favoritism or irregularity in recruitment is not only false but a disservice to the dedicated men and women who have earned their place in the Corps through hard work and discipline.

It is apparent that recent calls for my dismissal are politically driven and aimed at distracting the Corps from its core mandate. Let it be clearly understood:

I was appointed by the Executive Governor of Osun State, in line with all legal and procedural requirements of the enabling law establishing the Osun State Security Network.

I occupy this office not by political favour, but by a lawful mandate and a commitment to service. I have discharged my duties with utmost responsibility, professionalism, and respect for due process. Every action taken under my leadership has been rooted in law, guided by security intelligence, and focused on safeguarding lives and property.

The Amotekun Corps is not a political tool. It is a non-partisan, community-based security network established to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies in Osun State.

I urge members of the public, including political actors and critics, to refrain from spreading misinformation or engaging in deliberate campaigns of calumny. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but baseless accusations and divisive rhetoric only serve to undermine the morale of operatives risking their lives daily for the safety of our people.

While some may seek to sow discord or politicize security matters, my focus remains steadfast:

To serve the people of Osun State with honour, courage, and transparency.

I will not be deterred by detractors or sidetracked by those pursuing personal vendettas. The mission to secure Osun State is bigger than any one individual’s ambition or bitterness.

The Osun Amotekun Corps, under my leadership, will continue to partner with relevant security agencies, traditional institutions, and communities across the state to confront and defeat insecurity. We will remain accountable, vigilant, and resolute in protecting our people and upholding the law.

Let those who are genuinely interested in the security and progress of Osun State join hands with us — not pull us down with unsubstantiated claims.
