The Lagos State Police Command has declared human-rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, wanted over alleged plans to stage disruptive protests across strategic locations in Lagos.
Police authorities say intelligence reports linked Sowore and associates to a coordinated effort to block major public infrastructure including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park, actions they believe could lead to widespread public disturbance and traffic paralysis in Africa’s largest city.
According to the Command, 13 persons have already been arrested in connection with the alleged plot, while Sowore reportedly evaded arrest. The police have ordered him to report to the nearest station or face arrest “wherever found.”
Commissioner of Police Olorundare Jimoh stated that the planned action posed a threat to public safety and economic activities in the state, describing it as an attempt to “incite civil disorder under the guise of protest.”
Sowore, founder of Sahara Reporters and a long-standing critic of government institutions, has yet to issue an official statement responding to the development.
Security officers have since been deployed to sensitive areas across Lagos as
precautionary measures while investigations continue.
