A nonpartisan, youth-led civil society organisation, Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD), has called on the Supreme Court to expedite judgment on the prolonged Osun Local Government legal dispute between the Attorney General of Osun State and the Attorney General of the Federation.
The case, marked SC/CV/773/2025, was heard on October 7, 2025, with judgment reserved. However, nearly two months later, no decision has been delivered.
In a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, IICSD warned that the delay has deepened the leadership vacuum at the grassroots, as two rival factions continue to lay claim to council authority across Osun State.
According to the group, over ₦100 billion in federal allocations released to Osun local governments since March 2025 have remained largely unutilised due to the leadership dispute, crippling essential services such as healthcare, basic education, and local infrastructure development.
IICSD, the organisation behind the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), said the legal uncertainty has slowed community-level progress and eroded public confidence in local governance.
Through OsunOpenLG, the group has for years deployed community advocates to monitor council performance, track spending, and drive citizen engagement through town halls, radio programmes, and grassroots sensitisation.
More recently, it launched Amoye, a digital governance platform that provides residents with verified information on local government mandates, budgets, and service delivery—aimed at boosting transparency and accountability.
The organisation expressed optimism that a timely ruling from the apex court would restore order, end administrative confusion, and reposition local governments for effective grassroots service delivery across Osun State.
