Trump Announces Permanent Halt on Migration from “Third World” Countries

 

United States President Donald Trump has declared that his administration will permanently pause migration from what he referred to as “Third World countries.”


The term generally applies to least developed or developing nations facing significant economic, social, political, and environmental challenges, including high poverty rates, economic instability, and limited access to essential resources. Examples cited include Sudan, Chad, Niger, Benin, Pakistan, and Nigeria.


In a Thanksgiving message on Thursday, Trump criticized what he described as decades of failed immigration policies, claiming they have left the United States “divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at.”
