United States Congresswoman Sara Jacobs has condemned President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action against Nigeria over allegations of “Christian genocide,” describing the comments as “reckless and highly irresponsible.”
Jacobs, a Democratic lawmaker known for her work on foreign affairs and global security, faulted Trump’s remarks, warning that such inflammatory statements could strain diplomatic relations and escalate tensions unnecessarily.
According to her, decisions involving military force must be grounded in verified intelligence and undertaken in partnership with Congress, not issued as “political threats.”
She emphasised that Nigeria, as a key strategic partner of the United States in Africa, deserves constructive engagement rather than public threats capable of destabilising the region.
Jacobs also urged U.S. authorities to prioritise diplomatic dialogue, support for democratic institutions, and humanitarian interventions where necessary, instead of rhetoric that could inflame conflict.
Her remarks come amid ongoing debates in Washington over how the U.S. should respond to concerns about religious freedoms and insecurity in parts of Nigeria.
