U.S. Revokes 80,000 Foreign Visas: Nigerians Among Those Affected

 

The United States has reportedly cancelled nearly 80,000 non-immigrant visas since January 2025, marking one of the most extensive immigration enforcement drives in recent years. According to senior U.S. officials cited by international media, the revocations were linked to offences ranging from immigration violations and overstaying to criminal acts such as DUI, theft, assault, and other legal breaches.

Contrary to circulating claims on some Nigerian platforms, not all affected individuals are Nigerians. The cancelled visas cut across multiple nationalities, with Nigerians forming only a portion of those impacted. The U.S. Department of State has not released a nationality-specific breakdown, meaning the exact number of Nigerians involved remains unconfirmed.

The development aligns with Washington’s intensified push to tighten immigration systems and enforce compliance across all visa categories,  including study, work, and tourist visas. The message is clear: a U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right, and holders must strictly obey American laws and immigration rules.
